FAQ

Which fees does this calculator include?

A listing fee, a percentage transaction fee, a percentage plus fixed payment processing fee, and an optional advertising percentage. All are editable fields. The defaults are common starting values, but fees vary by country and change, so check your marketplace's current fee page and adjust.

Are fees charged on shipping too?

On many marketplaces the percentage fees apply to the full order total, including shipping you charge the buyer. This calculator applies them to price plus shipping. If your platform works differently, lower the percentages to match what you see on a real order.

Why should I count my own time?

If your time is free in the calculation, the profit looks bigger than it is. Putting in an hourly rate shows whether the item pays you for the work. If the result is negative, the item is costing you money or you are working for less than you intended.

What is the break-even price?

It is the item price at which profit is exactly zero after fees, materials, packaging, postage and your time. Anything above it is profit. Anything below it means you pay to make the sale.

How is the price for my target margin worked out?

The calculator solves for the item price where profit divided by the total the buyer pays equals your target percentage, given your fees and costs. If fees plus target reach 100%, no price can work, and it tells you so.

Can I use it for craft fairs or my own shop?

Yes. Set the marketplace fees to 0, or enter your payment provider's rates. Set shipping to 0 for in-person sales. The costs and time still show whether a table price is worth it.
